Press release from the Vurt
Project 1998
Vurt was about making ideas happen. These ideas belong
to a lose collective of artists, designers, media producers,
musicians, dj's and promoters in Copenhagen-Denmark
and Birmingham-England. Vurt will not be organized by
this collective, but instead, will provide an outlet
for the work produced by the collective. This outlet
(?) > a record label, exhibition, radio station,
film, web site, CD-ROM, magazine, band promotion, artist
management or DJ agent.
Vurt Opening Night at Stengade30
Vurt the club night will be a focus for this collaboration,
a place where the projects take shape and evolve. The
launch of Vurt will be held at Sengade30 in Copehangen
on the 22nd of May 1999. The whole of Stengade30 will
be taken over by Vurt, three rooms, three different
sound systems.
The main room will have a different drummer than we're
use to here in Copenhagen, hosted by DJ's Magnus Jarlson,
PK1, MC Hippo from the English Voodoo sound system and
Nu-Tonic's Resident DJ Bowen, joined by Stepa, Hurts
resident DJ, and MC AMA from the Danish crew Supaflyz.
The music will drop free style, all new music, all electric,
dance music, base heavy broken beats.
The attic room at stengade will be cleared and converted
to create a second dance flour for the club. House music
played by DJ's: Morton Trøst (3345®Vinyl),
Massive(H.M.E.98), Martin H (T.O.T.S,London) and Henrik
N (P2 Records, Berlin).
The Basement will be down beat. DJ's: Kosh(Supaflyz),
J-Nutz and Krok spinnin vinyl, hip hop and break beat
oldies.
But expect more than this, we arranged some stuff that
can't be advertised and there's still 10 weeks to go
before the launch of Vurt, the nature of this projects
leave space for anything to happen. Two weeks after
the launch of Vurt, Danish DJ's will travel to Birmingham
and play the NuTonic club night at wobble to complete
a circle.
The English Voodoo sound system
English Voodoo are an 8 strong collective of music
producers, artists and DJ's based in Birmingham. Maybe
you've hear of their "Voodoo Parties" in London
and the Midlands? one of gigs in strange places. Magnus
Jarlson and PK1 are the two DJ's and have held residencies
in Birmingham for the last 2 years as well as promoting
their own monthly at the "Last Word". MC Hippo,
in case you wondered, is the girl on the front cover
of baby Vurt magazine, she is an artist. Scout and Tiny
Lion are currently splitting time between gigs with
Michael Valentine and the studio laying down track for
their second release. Vurt links up tight with English
Voodoo.
Nu-tonic
Nu-Tonic, held every Saturday night In a upstairs room
of a back street club in Hockley promoted by Del Aguad
with the help of Bowen, represent the edge of whats
happening in UK clubs this year. There not afraid to
mix up a twist for everything, music they describe as
Funk Hop, Hip Breaks, Nu Beats and Bass Drums . The
club is a rebellion against UK's bland and commercial
main stream house and techno scene. "Low-Fi is
HI-Fly" - Bowen says - "Get it"?
Vurt Baby Magazine
Vurt is an outlet for media produces as well as performing
artists. Vurt baby magazine is our Baby print publication.
This mag in a bag will be produced (1000 - 4000 run)
weekly, by a team of writer and designers working with
Vurt, and edited by Rebecca Richmond. The magazine will
contain anything from 8 to 32 pages depending on contribution
and the time of publication. The magazine is a way of
publishing information about what's happening with the
Vurt project.
www.vurt.dk
Vurt's web site will be third generation. More than
advertising more than pretty pixels filled with fish
food. We have already have 5 of Copenhagen's best new
media designers and programmers working on the site.
Vurt magazine editorial staff act as contributors, we
have photographers, illustrators animators and artist
already working on related projects.
Vurt Records
Vurt records will release it's fist EP on the 5th of
July (vinyl only). The EP features 2 tracks from Scout
and Tiny Lion. Vurt hopes the project will generate
more music for it to promote. (Separate press release
when the time is right.)
